Kiss Portal -vs- IM Portal

I don't understand why we're going to scratch IM Portal, in favor of this new thing called KISS Portal. Does anyone know if it has all of the functionality of IM Portal at least??

If not, I don't understand why we're going to have to use it.

And if it does have all of the features and functionality of IM Portal, then what else does it have that IM Portal doesn't?

In other words, what can KISS Portal do that IM Portal can't??

Mike can answer this much better than anyone else because he created Kiss.

But one thing I do know is that IMPortal was created for phpBB2 while Kiss Portal was created for phpBB3

That alone is a great reason to use Kiss and not have to re write IMPortal for phpBB3.

KISS PORTAL is based on phpBB3, while IntegraMOD is based on phpBB2.
In time, support will fade away for phpBB2, however, I don't expect it to happen too soon.
There are too many users using MODDED versions of phpBB2 (not only integraMOD) for that...

KISS PORTAL will be more stable, more secure, faster and more effective in usability, but it will take some time before additionals MOD's will be developed and stable...
Therefore I agree to stay with integraMOD for time to come...
IntegraMOD has already proven it's qualities while it KISS PORTAL is just starting...
Michaelo is doing a great job on KISS PORTAL and will always be know as the first phpBB3 portal modder...
That will also make a lot of impression in the future...
KISS PORTAL also attracts developers to the challenge of creating MODs for the new phpBB3
Alltogether, it makes a wonderfull start for the future...

But for now, most users will keep using IntegraMOD for it's proven qualities...
I can compare it with wine...
IntegraMOD has reached best quality by age of development, and because of the early start with KISS PORTAL (while phpBB3 not even released) it will reach that quality sooner than any other...
KISS PORTAL will always be know as the first and Michaelo will have the longest experience with phpBB3... that certainly counts for something...

But as with wine, I will also wait untill it can prove it's good quality and stability by age of development...
By then, it will also have more developed MODs and become even better than integraMOD...
That's at least something very nice to look foreward to... <img>

Ok.. sounds interesting... I'm not too leery of it now after reading that. I just hope michaelo doesn't do a M-David routine and quit after awhile never to be seen again.

There are too many awesome mods out there that have been abandoned for one reason or another.

I hope this kiss mod doesn't become one of them.

Michealo has been involved with integramod almost from the begining. He is the oldest active administrator from IM.com. As the co-founder of this site, he is more active than he has ever been. I agree, it would be a huge loss if he were to go, but I dont see that happenening anytime soon. Kis Portal is his baby

In relation to comparisons to IM Portal, Kiss Portal does everything IM Portal did plus a great deal more and I'm not even started... Currently we have 9 templates in varying degrees of completion, most of the blocks are complete... (tongue in cheek).

Quite a few of what we call mods are built into phpBB3 and I have added the followingà¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ Quick Reply, Country Flag, Global Images, News, Announcements, Links, Books (like amazon but simpleà¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ more a random image gizmo), Styles Status, Simple Calendar, Flash Clock, Search, Portal Status (incorporated into ACP), Recent Topics, Simple Stats etcà¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦ User can also select different layouts for the portal page as with IMPà¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦

The project is almost as old as phpBB3 (give or take a week), it has been continually updated and tested. Recently I have got some valuable input from the guys at startrekguide, which led to improvements.

I have worked on IntegraMod and Kiss for the past two years (feels like two years) and nothing else, which resulted in poor health and the need for a long holiday <!-- s]Tool Projects:[/color] As part of KisMod we intend to add several tools including, a Theme Development Tool and Block Development Tool... plus some others.

This sounds really exciting. I'm sorry to hear about your health. I kinda know what it's like too spending your every hour and moment, day after day on code. I quit a project of my own after about a year and half of getting into it, so I know what its like to sacrifice for this. It can deteriorate you as you start neglecting yourself in favor of the code. So I wish you much encouragement in your endeavor. Yes, yes, I don't like the name of the project, but it goes without saying that you're doing an awesome job, and are more than valuable to its development.
