Can we install the forum directly at the root directory, like a subdomain?
I guess we can't...but I did. ProbablyI did a mystake, every thing is working, at least It looks like, except the search on the forums...
Can I change the forum to a new directory? easly?

yes. Make a new folder, copy all IM files to it. Re-do/Check chmods and run [url=http]cookieMOD[/url]

yes. access to the db will not be affected. You may have to manually edit a few entries in phpbb_config, but cookieMOD will edit most automaticly
