Editing "box" on styles

This one is pretty much for HelterSkelter but if anyone else knows... feel free lol
I am trying out an experiment with css (my wife) <img>
If I made a set of classes using css that would make me an entire stretchable box, how would I insert the code to make it fit around all the boxes on say, the index page?
I can draw alot better than type so I will whip up what I'm talkin about...

See how it has my border around the original little box? I can/have made that with pure css and can add it with just a <div> but I have no idea where to put the code around to get it to encase all the "blocks" and "boxes" on the index, and posting body all that.
Any suggestions where to look?
