How do you do phpBB updates?

PostAuthor: Bush » Mon Apr 17, 2006 10:51 am

When there is an update released for phpBB or IntegraMOD, do you update the files by "hand" or just upload the pre-modded files?

I understand that if you update w/ pre-modded files you'll lose all the mods you've done, correct?

Thx.

well first we have to wait till they port the update on integramod then we make the the update handly !

And YEs it's correcte if they use a pre-updated files !

that's why when u install a mod in the case of deleting a code , juste put it as commentary ! using the */ & /* codes !

I do both. If it doesn't seem like much work or if I'm afraid I'll overwrite a modification I've made, I do things manually. Crimson Editor works pretty well for that.

If it looks like lots of editing and I'm not worried about losing a modification, then I just upload the premodded files. (The only mods I've done are fixes for issues like the poll fix, quote fix, template problems, etc.)

I make a folder and name it for example upgrade to 2.0.20...I then open it and make a new folder and call it files b4 changes......

I then place all the files I am going to override and then place the new files one folder up.....

I then use winmerge and check off each file from the files in the folder before changes against the premodded ones against the install guide and my mod list and transfer my mod code over to my new files....

i then overwrite with the new files knowing that if i have made a mistake i can just goto the folder i made with all the old files and but it back the way it was....

Found it,

That sounds like a very interesting way. You keep well good track of your mods yes?

Where can I get winmerge?

AND NOW MY QUESTION!

I currently run IntegraMOD 1.4.0 w/ Security Patch 1.0.3 and phpBB 2.0.20

What is the safest way to keep the same versions of EVERYTHING, but lose ALL the mods I made so I can track what I do better from this point on!

All my modifications have been small fixes for the most part, or block additions. I've only added a few mods like minimum message length, and a mod that changed the pop-up for PM's to a dialog box.

Please help. <img>

Sorry i should have posted a link.....

I keep all my mods labeled from 1 upwards I also keep every changed file from the start to now.....

All code changes from everymod to every upgrade...and keep the mods i install on my server so i always know where to look for a copy...

regarding winmerge this topic will be of interest....
