Extremely Cheap Hosting

PostAuthor: Frost » Mon Apr 23, 2007 9:20 pm

Ok everyone, after a few weeks of talking to my host, and after being with them for a long time now I have arranged a special deal with them for IntegraMOD users.

After watching these forums and the posts dealing with strange hosting packages, problems with your host's, not enough memory etc, I decided to try and help you by getting you better hosting with the same people I use. Like you, I've had many problems with hosting providers, their constant problems, and the low quality of their service.. and most importantly their customer service.

How many of you have ever had to wait a ridiculous amount of time to even get a reply to your support questions, if you got one at all? That is just bad business and personally I think there should be a law against someone running a business that will not even help you because "it's not their problem". They lock in a contract and after they start getting their money, they just don't care anymore.

Trust me, I would like nothing more than to be able to have this one huge server and let anyone use it for free like I do my wireless connection to my neighbors, but unfortunately I'm not extremely rich and couldn't possibly afford it. The same goes for "perfect" hosting like everyone promises. Don't get me wrong I would gladly pay $30/month for hosting that I would have no problems with, for hosting I could talk to the same day about a problem, a host that would work with my hosting package and allow me to alter settings if I needed something to work... But in reality, it's simply not going to happen.

There are plenty of hosting providers out their who are a good business, and come really close to being perfect. Unfortunately the word spreads about them and they blow up, soon there are tons of people on one server and it becomes slow, then they have to try and help hundreds of people constantly... then you end up like most of us... out of luck.

So now that all of that is out of the way, on to the details of what I have found <img>
The hosting is from InvisionTech

Normally the cheapest package is $19.95 a month but like I said, I've told him about what goes on a lot here and talked him into working out a special deal for me to offer to you. You have to be using IntegraMOD and you have to tell him that I showed you the deal or he will act like he's never heard of it.

You can view the packages here: Hosting Packages

You can inspect and monitor his uptime and server here: Uptime

The Hosting Special is - 1GB space + 15GB Bandwidth for only $6.95/month
An additional 1GB space and 15GB bandwidth is available for an extra $6 per month

You HAVE to tell him that Frost sent you there from E-Tegra and that you are using IntegraMOD. This is from me so that you guys can get good hosting, not a vbulletin user or something <!-- s]Server = Pentium D 3.0 Dual Core, 2gb ram, 2 x 250 GB SATA II hard drives, 100Mbit connection

CentOS 4.4
Apache 1.3.37

PHP 4.4.4 and PHP 5.2.1 (Available through an .htaccess switch)
He will show you how by adding a few lines.
----

Like I said, I'm not trying to "sell" his hosting, if you don't want to use it, or don't need it simply ignore this post. If you have something better, you might suggest it here for others to help with problems and get everyone a fair deal with good cheap hosting.

sounds great Frost. Ill sticky this.
Users will still have to be aware that a busy integramod site can be very cpu intensive and that a bulk plan like this would probably not be adequate for a site that regularly has 40-50 members chatting, posting and sharing files and pics.
For less than $7.00 usd a month though, its a great starting point!

Thanks Helter!

Yea, I was trying to offer something to help out with the new people, and their problems with hosting. It is good for starters to medium, and they could always work out a deal and get upgrades to match what they need. If you would suggest a different plan I can see what I can do?

Thanks for the Sticky!

The question from me though is how many users are on the server?

I'm paying about $149 a month at the moment for two of us on the server via ServInt.

Specs are here.

This only just holds the loading IM takes.

You mean that half a whole server can barely handle your IM?
I see that it's 1.5ghz because you are getting only 50% cpu

In answer to your question, if you got a server from him, you are the only one who get's it, the whole server is yours. If you get a small 6.95 plan, I'm sure there would be other people sharing it with you, you'd have to ask him.

Hmm, from looking at what you're getting it looks like you could pay 70 more and double most of your current plan from looking at it, I guess they both offer something to each other, then both lack something of each other, pretty close call

That link is HERE

double processor, double BW, etc or get one of the xeon quad's lol (I want the 4 x 2.33 one)
Plus $100 more with an extra 1gb of ram
the quad cores come in single and dual cpu configs

I also thought I might post my average page load times as I myself am using the same server.

You can view the pageload times here: Click Me <img>

Hmm, well the $140 is really more than I want to pay, but the service from ServInt is first class, they install any software requested, PHP accelerators, etc.

Plus as a big company with a large support team it is guaranteed.

Nice pageload times frost!

Looks to me like this hosting (at least for now) has very nice servers and has not yet overloaded his servers like most hosts do.

If I was still in a position to go with shared hosting I would definitely move there. I'm paying about $80/month for my hosting and my pageloads aren't that good.

Zac- I made the overselling mistake one time in the 5 years I have been at this business. Two words for it: Never Again!

I host Frost up there. Hes actually on one of my older servers. The newer ones are using quad core or dual xeon dual core, and a couple dual quad core monsters (which were actually purchased from me and I was retained for management, so they're kinda like my babies)

Tekguru- I've heard mixed reviews about ServInt, though most were positive, seems like anywhere you go nowadays someone always has an issue with something about a provider.
I could get you something similar, with a bit more cpu power from another datacenter I deal with. I went to school with their VP-Sales, so I get one of those good-ole-boy discounts <img>
This is what I worked out with him if you are interested, not sure if you're a CP-guy or like the straight linux, no CP (I have a few clients like that, they won't touch any type of CP)

Intel P4 2.4GHz
1GB RAM
80GB 7200RPM
5 IP Addresses
CentOS or FreeBSD
1200GB Bandwidth
$99
$120 with cPanel/WHM, Fantastico, RVSkin, and Xcontroller (Bundled package addon)

Extra RAM is $25 per month per 1GB
You can also add on a 100 Mbit switch port for $12/month (Standard is 10 Mbit, I use 100Mbit on all my servers)

This would be a full dedicated server, not a VPS, so it would only be you with full root access to the entire box.

Let me ask you this, Chris. I really like your hosting, and I definitely like your personality. Coming in here to give us more information is a way cool move!

What do you (or what could you) have for VPS lines? I have a cpanel vps 400

http://www.spry.com/cpanel-vps/

I've found that running whm/cpanel hosting is definitely the way to go for me, because I usually run a few websites on my server, and thus I like to have a cpanel set up for each website with its' own stats module, etc.

I'm just curious as to what you could offer people who wish to have a lot of space in a vps. I have a feeling you would be an excellent guy to work with. I'm not in a position to make a switch right now (just prepaid 3 months last week) but I could definitely be tempted in the near future!

Re: Extremely Cheap Hosting

PostAuthor: iChris » Fri May 04, 2007 10:45 pm

Heya guys,

Tek, I got your PM and have replied, hope to hear from you soon!

Zac, Actually at this time I don't have any VPS offerings, I'm still working with SWSoft (Virtuozzo developer) on a full-blown training course for VPS administration. I do know the basics of VPS admin, as a company that I worked for full time offered them so I had to know the basics. I want to be able to run these VPS better than that company, because there were constant issues with several areas of the nodes. I'm working with SWSoft on a full training course, but I am speaking with their own development team about specific issues I saw crop up. I believe there are better ways to handle those issues than suspending the VPS or the few other methods said company had in practice.
You say you prepaid 3 months, hopefully I will have everything down and a VPS node or 3 up and running by then. I have come up with preliminary pricing, but it will probably undergo an overhaul after I get final pricing on the servers from my main datacenter. The prelim pricing is located here: http://www.invisiontech.net/IT-MarkII/vpsDEPLOYED.html Mind you, the IT-MarkII folder is my new layout, I totally trashed the last one. I am still working on it, which is why you only see a placeholder page at the main site.
The VPS400 you are currently on is between my IT-VPS3 and IT-VPS4, but the overhaul may bring new pricing and modified features, so I may be able to offer you the same plan, possibly with more here and there for a bit less. Also, the node specs are not final, those specs are my original conception design, but my main datacenter is launching a new server line which I may take advantage of over the quad core xeons.
