Suggestions on hosting please.

Hey guys,

I'm looking for suggestions on a new host.

I have a site that uses file sharing and a lot of traffic.

Presently I have about 600MB of file attachments, but expect to hit about 2000MB in time.
I only prune every 30-60 days to remove old files. I would assume the database would be growing too.

At the moment, I have over 800 users on a site that's 30 days old and expect in 4-6 years, can reach 100,000 users. Of course many will be old and inactive users.

I have being told by my present host that I need to upgrade to a VPS server. They offer the servers but are unmanaged. I have no experience with Linux or VPS which is a requirement to run unmanaged servers.

So I guess I would be looking for a fully managed server that has good rates, good support, reasonable storage and a workable amount of monthly bandwidth.

My present host offers great deals, but I don't know anyone to help with the server so I am stuck with managed servers.

Any suggestions for a new host would be appreciated.

a VPS should not be unmanaged! Ive used 4 of them over the last several years and never noticed any unmanaged VPS servers.

try Liquid Web. I will be moving this server there to one of there dedicated servers, but they offer several shared and VPS type servers

I'm with canaca.com right now and their VPS servers are unmanaged. Bummer.
They over what I thought are great shared packages. I'm not to sure on the VPS if the features are that good.

support is key. Good support can make a fair server an excellent one, but bad support has the opposite affect. To get the same hardware configuration i have now and the same level of support at my current spry host would cost a fortune

I just checked the reviews for liquidweb and they are pretty good.
One whiner with a site for 1 month and he's already crying. LOL

Think I'll be staying with a North American host.
Not looking to get into conversion of fees and such.
Have enough trouble dealing with idiot hosts here, don't want to complicate it any more. LOL

Looking at the host Helter suggested.
Probably going to go directly to a dedicated server.
I'll just have to upgrade to it later, so figure I'll get into it now and get familiar with it.
I just need to figure out what I need.
What to upgrade. Memory, processor, H/D, etc.

I still have 1yr 4mths with my present host, but if things don't go well, the switch will be sooner than later.
I am trying to do daily database backups, incase they shut me out again. At least I'll have what I need to get started with the switch over.

I understand you want to stay with a host in your country.

Still, I am using http://www.infomaniak.ch in Switerland, altough I am in Japan. They have excellent hardware, great support (including by skype) and I virtually had no problem with more than 10 years with them!

You get 50 Gb for your web sites, unlimited email addresses, unlimited bandwidth, .com domain fee is included if you want and of course free support, including in English. For 140 euro per year, so about 200 US$...

Big companies in Europe are using this host, so I guess that even very large forum should have no problem...

Don't think it specifies, but I think that's shared servers.
Looking more to dedicated.
