Magazine Portal

PostAuthor: weehong » Mon May 01, 2006 4:46 am

hi.. i'm basically trying to set up a magazine portal for my school, one that provides people with information, like current events, game reviews..

i'm intending to use integramod for this project, as it is jammed pack with features.. however, to use the IMportal mod included inside to create each pages one by one is rather troublesome... and i would like some members to be editors or writers...

has anybody set up something like this before? i tried to display the information as forums, but it looks really messy, and the HTML usage is severely limited...

note: my portal is located at http://www.graffiti-island.com/portal

please take a look at it and tell me what you think <img>

nice template <img>

it is really a rather short learning curve to make portal pages. I would suggest using the 3 colum page for additional portal pages with that template.
You can just create as many portal pages as you want, than add one center html block to each and copy/paste your page into it. That is how the "Manual" pages were made here

Have you considered using the news system as as your magazine base? you can get members to post submissions in a forum and as editor, if you are happy with it, you mark it up as news. You could categorise the news in either weekly editions or per magazine section. then users can see the posts in chronological order or they can see the development of a particular column.

Can I recommend the following
http://integramod.com/forum/kb.php?mode=article&k=13
http://integramod.com/forum/kb.php?mode=article&k=5
http://integramod.com/forum/kb.php?mode=article&k=4

Another way, if you like your editions all in one post you could rename anduse the knowledge base with the TOC system http://integramod.com/forum/kb.php?mode=article&k=2

hope that helps

Sounds painful! lol

Game reviews? like part of your magazine or more?

Oh I would recommend making the portal your homepage.

yep. it IS painful. i have to study 8 subjects in a very short time. yeah... i actually wanted my portal to be my homepage itself... i need something which will allow me to write reviews, and give ratings on each of the games.. user ratings are displayed seperately on another page.. know of any mods that can allow me to achieve this?

i dont think you need an additional mod to do this. You should be able to accomplish this using the built in rating system in ACP/general admin/rating
