This is a bit of a funny question!

But i know cos it happened to me on the other integramod site, i entered my password wrong 3 times, and it blocked my account. Has to be admin activated again i think!

I think the answer is that the account is locked, and and a pm is sent to the nominated admin that that account is locked and the IP address of the haccker that locked it. The IP is not banned. In the suggested case Michaelo would then find himself locked out and would have to either go through the process of checking the additional security question of I have forgotten my password and then the new password should be sent. Or Michaelo should email an admin to ask for his account to be unlocked. Some people re-register to ask to be unlocked but this is a waste of a login.

There should be an IP documented of where the false logins were made. You can then block this IP in your banlist if they persistently lock others out.

Re: Login Attempts

PostAuthor: billsatx » Sat Aug 12, 2006 12:03 pm

This really isn't an answer, but a suggestion. I created a secret backup admin login (login with admin permissions) that is really a wierd name and that is ONLY used for an instance exactly like that.

Just a thought, cause it's not funny being locked out of your own board even for a few minutes. Seems like a lifetime <img>

I wrote this here http://integramod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=7390#7390
Are you locked out of the account, do you get a banned or error message?

One of the 'easiest' ways is to reinstall!

Failing that,
Register a new user on your site with a different username but the same password you wish to have as admin,
Then open up phpmyadmin, in the left column, select the db of your install, then scroll down to phpbb_users (or whatever db prefix instead of phpbb_).
Now click on the top tab Browse.
You should have 3 rows:- the first is a guest user, the second is your premier admin account, and third is the account you just made.
Check that the second row has the admin username that you expected. If it is correct, look in the user password row and copy the encrypted password in the 3rd row. (the 2nd and 3rd row encrypted strings should look different)
Now on the 2nd row, click on the pencil to edit that row.
If the username was not as you expected, you can replace it here.
Go to the user_password cell and paste over the contents with the string you had copied.
Click go.

If you exceeded the number of user login attempts, go back to editting row2, scroll to the near end of all the fields and change user_login_attempts to 0 and click go.
Now you should be able to login!

The same would apply if the founder forgot their password. If they knew their password it is a case of just changing the founder's number of login attempts as stated in the last paragraph. I should really rewrite this to make it easier, but when I have time <img>

PS if you did need to make a second registration, it would show as the last, not the third row
