Super Newbie help installing

PostAuthor: mandrone » Sun Apr 30, 2006 12:43 am

Hello-
I have followed all of the instructions in the IM install.txt file.

I see that IM has folders named admin, blocks, includes, and templates in the folder phpbbroot. I assume I should put the files in these folders into my phpbb folders of the smae name? For instance, in the im portalphpbbrootadmin folder there is a file called admin_blocks.php --- should I put that file into my phpbb admin folder?

I was surprised the install.txt didn't mention what to do with these files...

Thanks-
ManDrone

Can I just clarify, are you upgrading from a phpbb based forum?

I'm starting with a fresh install. I was under the impression that phpbb and integramod work together and that I had to do the following:

1. install phpbb
2. install IM by changing core phpbb files and adding IM files
3. create site which now has a portal AND forums...

Is this incorrect?

So far I have
1. installed phpbb (but didn't customize anything)
2. changed core files according to IM install.txt file (but did not yet add IM files...hence my question above)

Thanks for any help you can provide. If you could pretend like I am a 5 year old it might help me understand the correct process...

also...
1. I notice that phpbb has no 'blocks' folder - should I copy the whole blocks folder to my phpbb root?
2. admin folder in templates/subsilver in phpbb has some similarly named files as im templates/subsilver... are these supposed to replace the phpbb files?

My confusion is basically what files go where, as it does not appear that IM is a standalone program with its very own file folders in its very own spot on the website. Everything seems like it shares space with phpbb files in phpbb folders....

No, if you are making an integramod forum from scratch and not adding a previous forum to it, it is all in the one install.

You say you installed phpbb first? Did you follow the install guide? and you say "I was under the impression that phpbb and integramod work together", Yes but they are all in the one download.

The confussion may be the difference between IM Portal and IntegraMOD
IM Portal is added to an already installed phpBB forum
IntegraMOD is self contained and already includes phpBB AND IM Portal

You were right, I was confusing the two. This morning I got frustrated and started over (wiped everything out for a clean beginning). I d/l IM, and just got it up and running, so things seem to be working out right now. I was surprised to see on the admin panel that the newest version of IM is using an older version of phpbb, but as phpbb just released a new version, I guess it makes sense. Hopefully I won't blow up the database upgrading phpbb...

I would recommend to anyone starting out at the moment to inteall 140 and start to play with it. learn how it works, play with the portal functions, look up the kb's here and play more. Then when 141 does come out you will be in a stronger position to be running up to date.
