im guessing your host is accurate. I dont think there are any hosts running mysql3x unless specificly requested by the client. Besides, it is such an easy upgrade, they would have no reason to lie about that and php5 is the likely reason for your high queries, though I dont know why

So do you think I should DOWNGRADE to mysql 4 and as well as php4? Or just only mysql?

I dont know that that will help you, I just know that the sites ive seen that seem to have rediculiously high queries are all mysql5. I would stay with php5 though because it is more secure.
