De.scription and Message

I have the auto pruning for the shoutbox set to 7 days, but never prunes.
Messages still there from day 1. Our forum is only about 2 months old but don't want it to get to be too long in the future.

This is an old topic with no reply. I'm having the same issue. Anyone found a fix?

I had my Autoprune on shouts set at 0 so it wouldn't prune anything. I set it to 7 and it didn't prune anything. I posted a shout and it THEN pruned it back to 7 days.

I don't know why yours wouldn't work as advertised. You can go to shoutbox_max.php and delete them one by one but that gets pretty tedious... especially when after each deletion it redirects you to the latest shouts again.

It actually works, but find it's touchy.

It looks like they stay there until you post in the shout box again.
Then it prunes everything older than 7 days.

I think this is done, so that you can read everything and not miss any posts.
If you posted again, the assumption is that you read everything before that others posted.

I didnt try postin another shout. I'll give it a try. Thanks. My solution that worked fast was to go to phpmyadmin and deleted the posts from the database.

Auto is the key chopper, you shouldn't have to do any thing once it's working. <img>

Yea I understand. That is why I was origanilly confused why it wasn't "auto" pruning. I'm going to test the posting and see if it works that way. Still a new forum so the only shouts were really just tests and I didn't try a new post after the prune setting.

When you type a message in the shoutbox, and then click on submit, then the shoutbox .script will start his job.
It will put your shout in the database, and also in the shoutbox window. And that's the only time the shoutbox .script can prune old messages.
There is no autostart option for the shoutbox.

The only thing the shoutbox automaticly doing, is refreshing the page. That way it is possible to show new post other users have posted.

Don't think you can. Doesn't have an admin or moderator function to it.
