SQL queries are up to 850 and counting.

PostAuthor: BobT » Tue May 29, 2007 6:51 pm

I just moved my site to a dedicated server. All was very good with good loading times and very few problems .... now all of a sudden i noticed and pages started taking longer to load .. not a lot but it caused me to look and what is happening is the page is really hitting on SQL to the tune of 800+ queries.

I am running version 141, with php5 and sql5 ... the only changes made in the server were all the files in the root (web) directory and up, the owner was changed from root to another name so i could make changes through FTP server ... I also on the server created a new DB ... but this was completely new ... nothing was touched on the db from this website ... http://www.nycichlids.com

A little history ... on my old server this was one of the problems ... high, very high SQL queries. When i moved i used a new install of 141 and used the same DB ... it has been running about 3 week without a problem ... and now it's back ...

Does anyone have any idea what is causing what appears to be a SQL loop (if that is possible) ....

Debug mode is on at your site.
turn off the debug mode and you will have faster loading times on the site.

Wow. 801 queries just now, but your page load is 1 second for me, (caused by very large graphics at top)

I don't think the 801 number is correct, if it were you would be experiencing VERY low load speed.

It is also possible that one of the mods on your site is requesting a query very fast but it would have to be a very small query because it isn't affecting load time.

So..

What mods do you have installed? Have you tried optimizing the DB?

MMmmmmmmmmm ... i have to find out who put the debug mode on ....

The install is stock i have not added anything to integramod ....i did add a chat but that is separate, a stand alone and not bridged to integramod.

No i have not optimized yet but i will ... BTW ... page loading has gone up for me from .5 sec to 2 to 3 sec ... i'm not complaining but i much have done something to trigger this insane sql queries ... This server has been running for 20days ...

could it be that when i chown every thing away from root, something that was not working is now? like you said something small, but what?

Could you possibly get an error log from your host?

That amount of queries is bound to be a massive error log <img> Maybe it will give us an idea of where to look

I don't know, I don't have my own server <img>

Should be a section somewhere in whp for error logs?

Sorry it took so long to reply. I checked http log and sql logs ... and found nothing ....

has anyone ever heard of this problem? ...

It is not causing a major slowdown but there has to be a reason for this ... Add to list of things done to the server ... the server time was corrected, it was 13 hours ahead of GMT -5 ...

any other ideas at what to look at?

I haven't the slightest idea, this would take someone far more experienced at servers than I, maybe Helter?

I was hoping someone else might have had this problem with their server and integramod. I just moved my site ... where it was i was having the same problems but it was not a dedicated server and page loading times were 30 sec and up ...
I was running fine for at least 3 weeks ... i'm not so sure it is a server problem ... i'm thinking software or a combo of the two. I really think it is something i did, after all it has occurred on both sites ... of all the things that i did, changing the file ownerships i think created the problem ... A lot of the files were owned by root, this made it impossible to make some changes with my ftp, so i changed them so i could ... I believe all the files owned by root came from my old site .... I was getting an error when i tried to do some things within the ACP ... it was because the file was chmosed (sp) wrong ... when the ownership changed it allow me to correct the ownership ... i'm think if possible a file was not working so to speak till the permission was changed ...

There were a lot of files were changed at the same time ... i only know one ... a shot in the dark at best ...

As for Helter, we have been working on my site for a couple of months now ... a hugh help for me. With all that is going on here i thought it would be better to ask for help ...

Still no joy, queries are still way too high.

... There has to be a reason, or at least some thing else i can do .. We are talking about a out of the box install no changes.

Anyone ever hear of a problem like this?
