Forum post migration

PostAuthor: XHIBIT » Tue Sep 01, 2009 7:13 am

OK my hosts are complete idiots, they have my code scattered and in duplicate to where I dont know what is what now.
I checked and found how the hacker rdirected my site and where it was pointed too.
After an entire week I am the one that found and removed the files he placed.
The buffoons at Cirtex hosting are as dumb as a bag of hair.

I need to do a fresh install on 2 IntegraMods, and migrate all the posts and members from the old ones to the new ones.
Simply because they have screwed up my forums to where the page is stretched out, image icons from the template are missing, and now the profiles of the posters have vanished.

So can I go about a complete migration of my posts from A forum to B forum ?
Its the only thing I can do to save my 7000+ posts and 400 members.
So I'll create anew, migrate them to the new one...and delete the old screwed up one.
All this behind them leaving some of my files open at 777 and having done such a shitty job migrating from one host to another.

the nice thing about the new phpBB3 update is that it wont touch your original db. It will just import your old info to your new db. Dont delete your old db because you may want to import your album, calendar and pafile info when the import scripts are done

OK bro...sometimes Im mildly retarded, and just to make sure I'm on the same page heres my question.

Should I upload the portal/forum to the (now broken) existing IntegraMod portal/forum I have now ?
As say public_html/MY WEBSITE/stargate all in the same root, to the same database ?

If so then I still dont understand how it migrates my users information, and my forum posts.

Today is a tard day for me obviously.

if you want your new forum to be in your web root, then move all files, folders and images from your 141 forum into a folder to keep them separate. then upload the phpbb3 files, create a new database and install it as normal. Once the install is complete, go back to the install folder again. this time there will be an option to import your old forum. Just add the path and the old db info and it will do the work for you. Dont interrupt it. If your on a shared server and you have a large db, it can take an hour or more to complete.

If something goes wrong during the import, just wipe the new db, empty the new config.php and start over. The fresh phpBB3 install should take about 30 seconds.
