Emails with No Subject as Subject

PostAuthor: looser9 » Fri Feb 11, 2011 1:53 am

Hi guys,

since yesterday I am getting a lot of mails from my board with No Subject as Subject.
The mail has nothing in it but arrives on average every 20 minutes!

Has anyone of you ever had this before?

your forum will create it in your forum root anytime an error occurs.
use ftp and look for error.log
you can view it with any text editor.
if it is too large, delete it and check for it again in a few hours or after you receive another blank email.

Last entry was from 2008.
I will wait for it and recheck it, as soon as I receive another e-mail.

I have now received around 40 new mails but there is no error in the log!

What can that be?

Is it possible that the chmod is wrong?

if the log is empty, delete it. php will create a new one when an error is detected unless you have error reporting turned off in your php.ini.
I believe that it is on by default.

I have activated error logging in my php.ini, restarted apache.
The config was accepted but still it does not log anything although I still receive the mails!

Where can that come from?

One thing that occured just right before the mails simply appeared.

Somebody tried to hack my board but not in the usual way.

He/she tried to enter all the passes for the users until the accounts got locked.
The strange thing was that it always happened with a different IP!

Can I ban an IP that tries to log in and fails? And where can I tune that on?

Is it possible to prevent this?

And how can this be related to the error messages that I am getting?

Problem solved:

Mails with no subject were only arriving because I had the notification via PM in the Admin Security Panel switched off.
If you only leave on the notification via mail then you will receive these kinds of mails.

I have a new probleme no since all the mails in the meantime were accounts that were locked!
