An "Empty" theme

PostAuthor: AM » Fri May 19, 2006 7:23 am

I develop "portal-like" Web sites where I usually use the same components, that is:

inc_footer.asp, inc_header.asp, inc_menu.asp, inc_mainnav.asp

I separate the include files so I can pull them into the shopping cart, IntegraMod and the main Web site. This allows all the modules to look as much the same as the Web site as I can get them.

IntegraMod is difficult to get the menu areas (left and right columns) to look like the Web site because the files are broken up and I can't find what controls the left, center and right column looks. I can get the header and footer to look like the rest of the site, but that's all.

I would like an empty theme that lets me change the theme according to each customer's theme of their Web site.

Hi AM, interesting you pull integramod into the shop, normally people do this the other way round, unless I misread.

So what it sounds like, is that tiy would like a template with no css? or the css with white bkg, grey borders and black text? Or is it more than that? Could you pm or post an example site? and maybe an impression of what you would like?

A

Adrian, I have to pull other software into a portal site because most of my customers want an ASP site for their custom applications, but they also like the features of Zen Cart and IntegraMod, so rather than reinvent the wheel by building ASP versions of Zen Cart and IntegraMod, I create the portal site in ASP, then pull in the other applications they want.

Here's a sample:

http://www.appleton.ws/

That's my portal site I'm building. My portals are usually three columns, 1. left navigation that stays constant. 2. Center content area. 3. Right menu column that changes based on the main link categories from the left navigation, header or footer.

Then of course, the header and footer.

When I integrate IntegraMod and Zen Cart, I pull the header and footer from the portal site. This way, if I ever make design changes in Dreamweaver, IntegraMod and Zen Cart are automatically updated to include the design changes. But, I would also like to do an include file into IntegraMod so the main navigation (left column menu) will also pull into IntegraMod above the board navigation block, and move the board navigation block to the right side.

Here's the portal I'm building for a customer now:

http://www.appleton.ws/webs/afgelocal987/

In my own portal, and in the portal above, you see the left and right columns have their own colors. Some of the portals will have images down those columns instead of just a solid color.

With IntegraMod, the left and right columns seem to be broke up into several tpl files, and to change the column color to include a background image, instead of a solid color, doesn't seem to work. I can change the left column color, but it also changes the middle and right columns too.

I would like to separate the columns of IntegraMod into 3 separate controls. Each column will have it's own background image and color. This way, I can match it exactly to the ASP main site.

I had to set up my portal in a development stage because my customers wanted access to information, which is why the site is not fully deployed. They have behind the scene access.

I'm setting up IntegraMod for both of the above examples.

Here's a site that uses Zen Cart as the main site (they didn't want ASP so I could pick another application) and then I integrated IntegraMod into it by pulling in the header and footer from Zen Cart.

by default the portal page id controled by two files.
/templates/fisubice/portal_page_header.tpl for the left blocks and for the center and right blocks, /templates/fisubice/layout/portal_body.tpl.

for what your trying to accomplish, you should try making a new portal page, and instead of using portal_body.tpl, try 3_column.tpl
This will put all three blocks (left, center, and right) in one file, located in /templates/layout/3_column.tpl
You can edit the look of each block from there, such as backgrounds, borders, images width, etc...

Ohhhhhhhhhh SNAP! Why didn't I think of that HS? I was trying to modify the default templates and tracking all the gazillion files attached to them to find where I can make changes.
