How to install IM Portal?

PostAuthor: Staedtler » Mon Mar 27, 2006 7:23 am

So once I've downloaded the IM Portal ZIP file, where do the extracted files go to?

And is install.txt some kind of script, or am I supposed to try to read it?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi Staedtler, yes extract it to a temporary directory and read the install script. Follow the instructions and if you have any problems post here we will be happy to assist.

Thanks very much for the quick response! My biggest stumbling block was interpreting that install.txt file. It looked more like a file to run through a code interpreter than an installation guide.

I've successfully installed IM Portal, but only now have I realized what I've gotten into. :-) I was originally looking for a mod that would post the contents of forum posts onto my site's main page, but I realize that IM Portal replaces the main page (or doubles as the entire site itself).

Is there a way to have IM Portal provide a chunk of code that would fit into my existing front page, or should I just use IM Portal for developing the entire site? The site is still in its infancy, so I'd be happy with either option. The only problem with the latter is that phpBB is installed in "www.mysite.com/forums", and I'd need to somehow change that so just "www.mysite.com" brings up the IM Portal front page.

Thanks again!

Your best bet is to wait for the release of IntegraMod 1.4.0. When it arrives you can install it anywhere, perhaps as w3.mysite.com/main. This will leave your current site untouched. If you have not done much work on your current site you might be best moving it to another directory where it might be safe or over-writing it with the new install.

Stick around and read all the posts, you will learn from all of them. A bit down the road we should have an install doc to assist installation.

Mike

PS I used w3 because www thinks it's a link.

for now you can edit the url and save this as index.html and paste it into the same folder as /forums/

Code: Select all
 <DOCTYPE><html><head><title>Redirect</title>  <META></head></HTML>
