I'm running 141 on a test site which is running PHP4 (they have not upgraded yet).

Is there any real disadvantages in running 141 on PHP5?

Teelk said on another topic that they are having some issues with older versions of php5 with the installation file. I had this problem on my site.

As far as disadvantages of running 141 on php5...I can't see any. I have it running on my php5 server and another copy running on my php4 server and they both work exactly identical so far.

HaHa no problem at all. I can't get into the deep technical stuff but I've been playing with Integramod a lot for the last few months and have become fairly familiar with it.

I'm just trying to help out these tech guys and answer whatever I can to save them a little time. Plus I have the advantage in this situation of having a PHP4 and a PHP5 server.

A deeper answer to your question goes as follows: Always run the best php version you can especially when it is a big change (like php4 to php5). Because over time, the older versions of php tend to get phased out. You ever look at the requirements for a particular software? A lot of times it will say "PHP 3.xx or higher required" Well one day it's likely it will say "PHP 5.xx and higher required" so the farther you can stay ahead, the better. I'm actually considering upgrading my php version again before installing the final 1.4.1 on my server. Not to mention with every upgrade of php comes just a little bit less security issues.

But to provide you a short answer, if you can get the installation file to work (which I couldn't, and had to import the site to my php5 server after installing it on my php4 server) then it's basically exactly the same. I notice no changes other than my php5 server being killer fast compared to the shared-host php4 server I was running <img>

well if you had a dedicated server and you were running 2 virtual hosts on it that would work I think.

I know this is an old topic but actually it is quite easy to do on a Windows machine. I have not tried it on Linux yet. If anyone is actually intersted I can post a how to.

Been awhile since I was here or over there, WOW, lotsa changes. SUP all!!
