upgrade guidance

PostAuthor: florida4x4 » Sat Aug 05, 2006 4:54 am

I'd really like to beta test 1.4.1 by importing my "live" database so I tried but wound up with login id problems. Is there an upgrade script that I could test?

you should read this thread

http://integramod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1691

it clearly states
Code: Select all
BEFORE YOU INSTALL -The Beta release is for the purposes of finding and fixing issues before the final release. This means IT IS NOT for installing for use in a website for public use. DO NOT use it as such. NO SUPPORT will be given for any website running the beta. The purpose of the public beta is to increase the chance of finding faults, bugs and issues before the final release and thus making it more stable for final release.

the upgrade path will be released, and support to integrate your live site will be given when IM 1.4.1 is out of beta. <img>

Not to mention every Release Candidate is different, so doing a manual upgrade could be different each time.

Re: upgrade guidance

Thank you, I have read that. I still think doing a test of the beta with live data would be a good thing! Since I am not able to devote the time to figure it out myself, I thought I'd ask. Note that I am not interested in running my live site on the beta.

i guess the way i look at it, is any data you put in your beta test site, is "live data"

well, that is what i do, i create members, and yes sign in and out with the different member names.

i set up the beta IM just like i would my live forum.

give mod and admin privileges to the members i create, i post, write articles for the KB, upload pics to the albums, delete, move, split and merge topics.

install and uninstall the themse that come with it, set up the portal page, put some zips and other things in the download section.

that is the idea of beta testing, you do whatever you would normally do on your live forum, to find any errors or problems in the software.

i have even done a few small mods on the beta sites i have set up, but i never do anything as major as trying to import a DB i already have into one.

i think most people forget, that you can set up the beta as you wish, and test any and all of the features you wish to test and help the developers by reporting any errors or problems you come up with.

each beta release, does get us all closer and closer to a final release, and the upgrade path that everyone wants.

Just curious, is there any hint as to when there will be a final release?

The reason I ask is because I'm migrating from PHP-Nuke over to IM, but I'm holding off until 1.41, as long as it won't be too much longer...

The Final Release is getting very close. When is very close you may ask? Well, We can't really say because if we did there are those that take even an estimate as the release date.

Just know that we are as anxious as you are for the Final Release. We want everyone to have a stable and functional product on release day.

We really do appreciate everyones patience and help in testing the RC releases, this will help in getting 141 out the door much faster and more complete.
