Has anyone else been to the phpBB site recently? It's ummmmm.. quite different. I spent probably a good 5 minutes trying to re-type the url, but I kept landing at the same spot... It sure isn't teh phpBB.com I'm used to!

I had the same myself! I thought my browser had been hijacked!!! Then I realised it WAS the phpbb site! I think they went a little mad with the upgrade of the site... BUT it looks cool! <img>

I guess I'm the only one who doesn't like it lol

I don't really care either way for the template change, but as far as all the old stuff being gone. That's just plain retarded.

I tried to find old mods, posts, and KB... yea not happening.

How disappointing <img>

I noticed in their users block it shows when the [bots] come on or shows them as registered users.
Is that something we have? It neat to see the frequency that they access.

Guys have a look at the url in my sig...
The site is a development site for phpBB3 Portal, your comments are welcome...

The following Mods are under way... one or two at the site and others at various sites throughout the net...

These are mods that I know are being worked on: KB, Album, Blog... + about 60 others...

Quite a few of what we call mods here are now part of the phpBB3 core...

We can still use the old templates style method so Frost will be happy :x
The template system takes a lot of getting use to... <img>

Yea I know, I've been working on a few themes for PhpBB3 and I DO NOT like it at all <img>

The way they split and changed the template directory is annoying and don't even get me started on the change from .tpl to .html....

Ok I can't help it.

That was the dumbest Idea I have ever seen. Seriously.
Not only does this make it a pain in the ass to one click edit the file because it now opens the page in your browser, but there is absolutely NO reason for it besides some user bitching because they couldn't open .tpl files in any editor... (You can add the extension to most editors and it takes about 30 seconds)[/end rant]

Point taken... I wonder what reason they use to change to tpl in the first place ?
The way I approached it was not to use any of my 100 or so theme I had already designed but instead I started over... Took a long time to get my head around the changes especially the use of list tag as I have never used them before... I will say this... once you get one finished, the next one is much easier and very quick.

We should probably set up a phpBB 3 style tutorial... I think H would be into this as he has quite a few to convert... and I would like to get some questions answered... between all of us we might make some progress...

Only real thing I'm worried about is the jump from IntegraMOD to KisMOD... will that be possible? And will it actually be worth the hassle? Will it have enough to offer to make it worth the hassle?
Aside from all that... As far as I understand, there will still be a lot of changes before the final release and it was advised to not MOD or create styles yet as they won't function completely when phpBB3 will be released, how true is this? Anybody got an idea? It put me off and I never even bothered getting to know it more.

Well I think that phpbb3 will definitely be the place everyone wants to be as it is the most anticipated release of phpbb of all time.

I think getting an early start on phpbb3 is a good idea and I think making a tutorial is even better. I will spend all night tonight digging into the theme system. By tomorrow I should be able to crank out some themes.

On this set we should provide what we never did in the past, a theme designed to learn off of.
The only draw back to this would be the enormous amount of people doing their own and making new theme websites. This would obviously hurt the ones who run websites with themes already.

Either way, I do need to get busy and learn this system before it hits RC

Yeah but from a consumer's standpoint you'll definitely be getting some thumbs up ! <img>

True: I guess the fact that you as a website offer a "base template" as a free service looks good on your visitors. I would imagine the amount of questions asked on your forum about how to edit and various other tasks would do well to up your sites popularity. Then as users try your template and decide they would rather just download (or buy) a template, they are already there on your site and familiar with the works.

I will give it a try, although I suspect the sheer amount of explaining repeatedly will get tiresome.

Hmmm... From a "look into the future" point-of-view... can't disagree at all! Maybe it's my being at the early stages in learning all this, not even grabing a book of "php-for dummies". Just looking at the code, compare it to other code and try to figure it out. And when I did my current theme from scratch (just using some existing graphics and modifying them) and starting to move stuff arround I started to learn how all this stuff works and how complex and advanced the phpBB engine actually is (compared to stuff like webSPELL).

Hope I'll find some time and inspiration to go through some phpBB coding tutorials and some php-coding tutorials one of these days, as I'm truly starting to love doing this stuff!

Even dedicated a "Development" section on my site to IntegraMOD and adding other phpBB hacks (I call it "iMOD" :?

Just one thing though! Do you guys think it will be possible to upgrade from the IntegraMOD to KisMOD?

If that's not gonna be possible, then I might just as well start with phpBB3 now and hope that the database will stay compatible till release.

Pfff... OK OK... you guys got me startled :? OUCH :P
But what amazes me most (aside from the extensiveness of the ACP) is how FAAAAAAAST the engine is!
OK... I know I'm going local host, but the XHTML does make a huge difference, doesn't it?!
