Collapsable Nav Mod

PostAuthor: Dioncecht » Tue Apr 18, 2006 8:12 am

My first contribution to the project! Hopefully this is a useful mod to more people than just me.

This adds an Open/Close button to the blocks on the portal page and the Nav blocks on the left side. You can choose enable/disable this function for every block on the page via the IM Portal Blocks Management in the ACP when creating or editing the blocks. Also, users preferred settings are stored as a cookie.

Currently, I cannot get the calender to work, but hopefully someone who is more proficient with IM/PHP can help me figure it out. I have a couple changes planned for another release (thanks adrian...) as soon as I get a little more free time to work with it.

nice Dioncecht, could not get the calender block to close though, but all the other ones worked fine.

Thanks. Haven't quite been able to figure out how to get the calandar one to work yet. Not quite sure how that particular block works and with finals coming up in my classes, I haven't really had to look at it much

I used the basics of your code to make my left blocks (sounds dodgy) collapse. Still workign on the right when time permits.

I personally did not like adding extra images since IM is very image intensive already. Thats the only reason really <img>

To those not familiar with this the original thread on integramod.com ( http://integramod.com/home/viewtopic.php?t=10458 ) Helterskelter made more universal images http://www.fidesignteam.com/IntegraMOD_LT/portal.php

If in the future we can develop this an idea I had was to place it in the top right corner of the block, improving on the usage of space. The only major issue is if the titlebar is not shown.

Yes, the titlebar seems a pretty logical place to put this. After classes I can work on this a bit more, but until then I really can't do much with it.

I actually, like Simons way. Nice and invisible. yet your users won't know about it unless you tell them.

Yes I had thought of that....Could always update the titles of the blocks hence:

Navigation becomes + Navigation -

Of course one of the real winners would be collapsible columns to make a whole side move and let the centre fill the remaining space <img> But thats another topic! lol

Great answer [flash=,:1wllwn42]http://integramod.com/home/images/icon/icon14.gif[/flash:1wllwn42]

But there isn't a real world out there any way is there?

I must admit I like the collapsible mod installed here! click on the hide Quick Links Hide and it disappears but places an image on the left to unhide.

The problem with leaving the header is when you hide several you still waste space. One option might be to use a right click to unhide block form a selection of hidden blocksà¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ ¦

Good point Mike. I was thinking along the lines of another portal that eludes me. Especially where users still have 600/800 res screens or less!

Sorry chucklehead, I got sidetracked with development and bug fixes. I did intend to add this feature later on in the form of a separate test release so we can examine it before including in beta... I think we will keep it separate, as it will require slight mod to the templates.

Everyone seems to like this approach so it would be a shame to drop it <img>
