Do you mean a KB of how to get into admin accounts on your forum with inactive or unknown email addresses? Or a KB of what I just said. If you would like, I would be happy to write it up. Let me know. (I'm not a noob, just don't post much)

My problem was that I have 17 moderators and 5 admin (yeah yeah I know) and the PHPBB Security settings were defaulted to (i think, if I remember right) 2 admin and zero moderators. For some reason this was causing the banned message to be viewed by everyone though.

Either way changing the maximum allowed admin/moderators solved it.

::shrugs::

I think the upgrade path from 1.3.2d to 1.4.0 is excellent! way easy! I would just suggest that the phpbb security be defaulted to some insane number (like 15 admin and 100 moderators) just put a message in the instructions that it should be changed to a more reasonable number to fit your forums.

Then again that could be kindof confusing for some <img>

Anyways, I wanted to share my solution to this problem. When you have more admins than allowed...i'm not sure which ones get banned, but I just ended up getting into the oldest admin account (if you can't remember the password and the email address is inactive, a simple copy and paste of the MD5 hash of your current password will work in mysql) and change those settings in admin. Of course if you were to go that far you might as well just change the phpbb security settings in your mysql.

If you do not solve it now, you do not want to re-install in a year's time when your board is established.

find

INSERT INTO `phpbb_force_read` VALUES (1, 'Please read the following post as it contains important update information pertaining to this forum.', 0, 1, 1);

replace it with

INSERT INTO `phpbb_force_read` VALUES (1, 'Please read the following post as it contains important update information pertaining to this forum.', 0, 0, 1);

then install as usual. This should set FTR to disabled at install

It makes sense. I didn't play with the chmod because I thought the unzip style install set them correctly.
I will do a fresh install and chmod everthing. The reason I set mods and admin the same was because it was my third install and trying to figure what wouldn't work. I guess I got ahead of myself.

In any event thank you and I will reinstall.

Secondly on this install you have given the allowed mods and admins the same variable name. I recommend a fresh install, checking chmods are correct from the start.

I appreciate the offer and if I don't get this resolved will certainly seek you out. So thanks that is very nice of you.

I am in no real rush. So perhaps someone will respond with a helpful bit of advice.

I did delete and create new databases when I performed additonal installations. The portal functions correctly in regards to it's operation and ability to create users and sending confirmation emails and all that.

The big hangup is access the ACP. As soon as I enter admin and the password I created I get you are banned message. There is probably something simple I am missing.

Bottonm line is I
1. uploaded the zip file to a forum directory on the site and decompressed it.
2.Ran install/install.php
3.Entered the DB info for intergramod that I created just for integramod with all valid information.
4.Deleted the install and prill_install directory when prompted and clicked continue.
5. Am able to see the forum but locked out when trying to enter the ACP.
6. Not sure what the security settings do. admin config and mod config and one other forget offhand what it is. But entered a username for those. In this case simply admin.

So in any event I am sure I will get it straightened out but it seems like something associated with the ACP login is at error here.

Thanks so much for the help

Prolly a dumb question but, when you try to access the ACP do you actually use the word "admin" for your username? B/c if that is the case you will not be able to gain access unless you use the username and pass you created at time of set up. The word admin will only work if that is in fact the username you set up.
