On my server, the result was just blank pages, and it's very difficult to upgrade if your server automatically upgraded you to PHP5 because even the upgrade files that altered the SQL tables would not run on my server unless they were the upgrade files from phpbb 2.0.19 to upgrade to 2.0.20. So it really complicates things.

Luckily I still had my old server running php4 so I just upgraded the site from there, and that is whre I will upgrade to 1.4.1 before I move it over to the new VP.

Now, as for the upgrade I think a Dev like Mike will need to answer that question.

Doing a public Beta is a very important step because it allows us to let the public try the new version on many, many different hosts and configurations. We do the public beta without an upgrade path because we DO NOT want people to use the beta as a live forum. And trust me, people will try it.

Many hosts are moving to php5 now, i have been getting alot of PMs from people saying they would beta on their php5 servers. Just know that we are trying our best to get this out quickly but as stable as we possibly can.

This all sounds really complicated. My concern is this php5 stuff. I don't really understand it at all. If 1.4.1 is php5 ready, but my current server is not, does this mean I cannot upgrade? Basically, will a php5 ready engine run on a php4 server. I also read somewhere, that some guys server upgraded to php5, and it caused issues for his version of Integramod, b/c he was still using php4 or something like that. I dunno, I guess I'm still a n00b when it comes to php :)

Like I said it's useless until 1.4.1 is released <img> so might as well put it to good use.

I'm just anxious because this is the version that is compatible with PHP5 which is what my new server is running but haven't been able to move my site over to the new server (not bad pricing, $28.99/month) until I can get a forum software running PHP5 so I just decided to go ahead and wait until 1.4.1 is released because it doesn't seem like you guys are *too far* away from having it done.

First I tried calling my host where I purchased the server and they can't let me downgrade to php4 because they say they won't run PHP4 anymore and that every one of their servers is on PHP5.

So it appears as though PHP5 is breaking into the net at a fairly rapid pace so hopefully we'll see 1.4.1 out fairly soon. I don't want to use Invision Power Boards and I sure as heck don't want to go back to using PHPBB EWWWW ! ! haha. Nah i'll wait on you guys <img>

I thought there was a team of you guys to do the testing so all we would see is the final/updates.

when 141 will be released?

The direct answer is. When it is released. I am sorry to say that there is no release date or time frame of any kind for the public beta or the final. We will not even attempt it because it causes to many problems when we do. We want to release it just as badly as you want it released. So hang in there, we are determined to get it out as soon as it's ready.

When 141 is released it will be a stand alone Public Beta. No upgrades will be released because it will not be released for live use. Once we feel we have all the bugs pounded out of the Public Beta we will then release the Final along with the upgrade. We will also release the change logs which should assist you with upgradsing your heavily modded sites.
