[SOLVED] problem setting up a new board founder

PostAuthor: rrswife » Fri Mar 18, 2011 6:12 pm

I am stepping down as owner of my forum.... another admin is taking over.

I am user_id 2 ...and I seem to be trapped in my forum... it won't let me leave!!! LOL

I'm on an outdated version.... 141.... phpBB 2.0.23

HelterSkelter helped me relearn how to edit a file on another thread... I was able to get the label of "Board Founder" and the right color to show up on my new owner's account. My account (that was the board founder) is now showing up as an Admin. I changed the user_id from "2" to the new owner's id in the profile files and a block file... that corrected the colors and labels.

The new board founder does not seem to have all the permissions that a founder should have (example, he cannot access Security / special in the acp)
My account CAN still access everything, just as if it was still the board founder...
I do NOT show up in the list of Admins when I look at user groups... but, when I go to the admin panel and click the "admins & mods" list, I DO show up in that admin list.
No one is able to set my account to "user".... they are told they are not allowed to make that change (even the new founder is not allowed).

PROMBLEM: My account is "stuck" on Admin status... I want it on "user" status
PROMBLEM: The new owner does not have all the founder permissons

Are there other files I need to edit???

you can give him permission to view and edit "Security / special" by adding his name to this line "Here you can select admins to deny them access to view this page."
The only way I now of to remove your admin is to open your database in phpMyAdmin, select phpBB_users, edit your user account and set this "user_level " from "1" to "0"

you should find a link to phpMyAdmn in your webhosting control panel.
Do not try to do this from your forum/General Admin/phpBBMyAdmin or you will probably end up deleting your user account
or you can simply unzip and upload this file to your forum root and browse to it. Be sure to grant your new founder permission to the security section first though.

We have the forum on a VD server with GoDaddy and pay for the "assisted support plan".... I think that is what is stopping me.... on assisted support you do not have Root or system-level access.

I searched all day for the phpBB_users file and have about decided that it's one I do not have access to b/c of the GoDaddy plan I'm under.

(thanks for all your advice and helpful suggestions, HelterSkelter!!! very appreciated, as always! )

glad to help. The attached file will do the same thing as manually editing phpBB_users.

btw phpBB_users is not a file. It is a directory in your database. You do not need root access to use phpMyAdmin. It is a tool included with most all web hosting accounts.

HelterSkelter, I am the new owner of the forum and this problem still exist. I think the thought of her altering the files scared her enough not to try it. Could you give me a little more info on doing this.

what is the current status of your and her accounts?

one other place i found to edit with your user id is in forum root/ctracker/constants.php
Code: Select all
define('CT_FIRST_ADMIN_UID', '2');         // UserID of the first Admin

I do have founder status and I can access all controls, but I still can not change her from Admin to User. Her ID is listed as 2.....My ID is 200
I was all gung ho to try the mod, but since you said it could also delete her account scares me.
I am going to look for the second file you talked about.

I have a similar set up but on purpose, as with earlier version they target the first account made / Aka the master admin account.

So I set up a 2nd account later for myself and just locked the master account so it can't even be used. [Never found myself already logged into my forum again, that's scary.....]

Id say just note to use the master account to give you access to the special section under security. Only thing 141 needs done different.

She is a active user so just locking the account can't be done.

Have you tried editing the DB via phpmyadmin, and not through the forum but the hosting account CP?

It has to change if you edit it there.

I will try to do that this evening since there is no chance of her account disappearing.

phpmyadmin has nothing to do with your forum. It is a program included in your webhosting account.

Dont use the phpBBmyadmin that is in your forums admin control panel because you will have to write a querry to edit the users table.

Just upload the file I included a few posts ago to your forum root via ftp (filezilla), then browse to it in your firefox or internet explorer and it will do all the work for you and remove admin privs from her account. Once done, delete the file from your site.
